Pritam Chakraborty, commonly known as Pritam, is one of the most successful and influential music composers in the Indian film industry. Born on June 14, 1971, in Kolkata, Pritam initially pursued a degree in electrical engineering but his passion for music led him to study at the prestigious Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata. He began his career as a member of the band “Chandrabindoo” before transitioning to film music. Pritam’s big break came in the early 2000s when he composed the music for Tere Liye (2001), which gained attention for its fresh and contemporary sound. However, it was his work on the soundtrack of Gangster (2006) that truly launched his career as a top music composer. The songs “Bheegi Bheegi” and “Ya Ali” became massive hits, and Pritam’s distinctive fusion of modern rock and classical Indian music found a widespread audience.
Over the years, Pritam’s career soared as he became one of Bollywood’s most sought-after music directors, known for his catchy tunes and ability to craft memorable soundtracks. Some of his most iconic works include Jab We Met (2007), Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009), Barfi! (2012), Bajirao Mastani (2015), and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). His ability to create music that resonates with both the younger generation and older listeners has made him a go-to composer for a variety of film genres, from romantic ballads to high-energy dance numbers. Pritam has worked with some of the biggest names in Bollywood, including singers Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal, and Neha Kakkar, and has won numerous awards for his contributions to the music industry, including multiple Filmfare Awards. His signature style of blending Western and Indian musical elements has made him one of the defining figures of contemporary Bollywood music.
